Recorded live in Washington, DC, on January 27, 2004, this performance brings together the profoundly expressive and distinguished pianist Anna Ouspenskaya and the great organist Eric Plutz in an arrangement that reveals the extraordinary versatility of Tchaikovsky’s music. The piano retains the brilliance, lyricism and dramatic personality of the concerto’s solo part, while the organ takes on the vast orchestral dimension of the score, creating an unusually rich palette of sonorities, colours and dynamic contrasts.
The Organ
Originally built by Aeolian-Skinner Organ Co., Opus 1485, the instrument was subsequently rebuilt and enlarged, including the addition of a fourth manual and further structural and tonal work by E. M. Skinner. The Pipe Organ Database records the major rebuilding work in the 1982–84 period.
