Summer Night in an Old Town — A City Told Through Music

A summer evening. An old town. A walk filled with sounds, memories, and unexpected discoveries.

Summer Nights in an Old Town, by composer and classical guitarist Rainer Stegmann, was inspired by an evening walk through his hometown of Regensburg—a city where centuries of history coexist with the vibrant energy of modern life.

Ancient buildings evoke memories of the past, while different cultures and nationalities shape the city's present. Rock and jazz drift from a pub, followed by a sudden moment of silence—and then, perhaps, the sound of an organ or Baroque music emerging from a church.

All these impressions find their way into a work in three movements:

Originally composed for guitar and string quartet, Summer Nights in an Old Town transforms the experience of wandering through Regensburg into a vivid musical journey in which history and modern life, contemplation and energy, silence and sound continually meet.
